How do I download and install a program on my computer?

1) Go to the Gepeto Software Downloads Page.
2) Find the program(s) you want and click the "Download Program" link for that program.
(If prompted, choose "Save to Disk...")
Important: Make a note of the directory where the program is being saved!
3) After the download is finished, Double-Click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and go to the directory you download the file to. (Example: The "C:" drive in the "Downloads" folder...)
4) Find the file you downloaded and double-click it to run the setup program.
Important: Make sure you double-click the correct file, especially if you have been downloading other programs.
5) The setup program will begin and lead you through several simple steps to complete the installation. Just follow the prompts.
6) When the setup is complete, you will now find an icon for the program in the "Start Menu" of your computer. Click the icon to start the program!

How do I uninstall a program on my computer?

Go to your "Control Panel" (in "My Computer"), double-click the "Add/Remove" programs icon, and find the program you want to uninstall, then click the "Add/Remove" button.
Many Gepeto Software programs generate additional files after they have been used. You may also need to find the directory where the program was installed and manually remove it to completely clear all of the files.

How do I install a program on a WINDOWS NETWORK?

Note: A program cannot be installed on a network or shared drive without the purchase of a site license from Gepeto Software. Installing the program on a shared drive or network without the purchase of a site license is a criminal offense punishable by law. (Particularly in schools, where government auditors are very strict about copyright laws.)

Every Gepeto Software program is designed specifically to run effectively over a network and several programs include security options tailored for network use. All of the programs have been tested extensively on Windows NT networks. Other network operating systems will work fine but are not officially supported.

The directions below are the most effective way to install a program on a network drive so it is accessible from multiple workstations.

1) Install the program on the hard drive of a workstation and register it with the site license information you received from Gepeto Software.

2) Find the program folder on your hard drive (probably within the "C:\Program Files\" directory) and copy the whole folder to a shared network drive.
Note: You should copy the folder itself so that you now have that folder on the shared drive.

3) Download the "Network Install Files" from the downloads page at www.gepetosoftware.com

4) Unzip the Network Install Files directly into the folder on your server that is holding the program.

5) Lastly, on a workstation, create a shortcut that points to the program's ".exe" file on your network drive.
Note: Make sure the "Start In" folder of the shortcut properties is the program folder.

From the server, right-click on the program folder and go to "properties" and the "security" tabs, you need to make sure that
"everyone" has "full access" to the folder (so they can make vocabulary lists, save worksheets, etc...).

Note: With some of the animation-based games (Vocab-Flash, Snack Bar, etc...) you may also need to install additional runtime files on each workstation. If you follow the directions above and notice problems with the animations (slowdown, white boxes, etc), then installing the runtime files on the workstation should help. Download the runtime files here.

When I try to install ActivityMaker 2, the setup keeps telling me to restart my computer.

This error occurs most often on Windows 2000 machines. There is a secondary download file on the downloads page that contains just the program files and bypasses the setup program altogether. Download it and unzip it and simply double-click the "activitymaker2.exe" file to run the program.

When I print the handwriting worksheets in ActivityMaker: Vol. 2, the words don't line up.

In some instances, the font files that are needed to get the "Handwriting practice" worksheet to work may need to be manually installed. Here are the directions for installing them manually:

  1. Download the two font files here and here. Make a note of where you save the downloaded files.
  2. Go your computer's Control Panel. (Usually by going to Start-->Settings-->Control Panel)
  3. Double-click "Fonts"
  4. Go to File-->Install New Fonts
  5. Navigate to the place where you saved the downloaded fonts from above and choose one. Repeat the procedure for the second font.

That's it. The handwriting sheets should line up perfectly now!

How do I get a code to unlock the programs?

All of the programs available for download are the complete and full programs, but with some features "locked" in shareware mode. Shareware means the program is available in this "locked" form for you to test out and try to see if it meets your needs. If you like the program, you can order it here. When you do, the author will email you a registration code which you can enter into the program and unlock the full features of the product.

I entered my code, but the program did not unlock.

Note that the registration codes are case-sensitive, which means if the code sent to you is "AAA" and you enter "aaa" instead, it will not work. You will need to enter the code exactly as it appears in the registration letter you received from the author.

You will know you entered the code correctly when a message comes up on the screen congratulating you for registering the program. If this message does not appear, you likely mis-typed the code.

Also, most of the programs need to be restarted immediately after they have been successfully registered for the code to completely take effect.

I am getting a "File Not Found" error when I run a program.

The best way to fix this problem is to run the setup program again to ensure that all of the needed files are in place for the program to run.

I am getting a "Runtime ___ Error" when I run a program.

Depending on the runtime error code number, this message could mean a great many things. The first and best thing to try to fix this is to run the setup program again to make sure complete and uncorrupted files are all in place for the program to work.

If the message persists even after you have rerun the setup program, you may need to contact me with the details of the error, including the exact error message, what you were trying to do when it happened, and the exact screen at which it comes up.

I am getting a "Can't Display Non-Modal Form" error.

Download the latest version of the program from the downloads page, as this error has been fixed in most of the programs now. If you continue to encounter this error even with the newest versions, contact me.

I am getting an error not mentioned above when I run a program.

If you are getting an error not mentioned on this page, you should first read the "ReadMe.txt" file included with the program. This file will address issues specific to the program.

If you are still not able to fix the problem, please contact me with the specifics of the error. In your message, please include the program name, the exact error message, the exact screen where the message appears, and what the program was doing when the error comes up (example: "making a math squares worksheet with a maximum value of 100 and a minimum value of 20") Please be as specific as possible and include as much information as you can.

Do Gepeto Software programs run on a Macintosh Computer?

Although not officially supported, the programs should run on most modern Macintosh computers running in Windows emulation mode. Download the free trial versions to test it out. If the trial version works, the full version should, too.

When I print a worksheet, the question at the bottom of the page gets cut off.

The best way to avoid this if you are encountering this problem is to click on the "QuickWord" button at the top of the editing screen to export your worksheet to your computer's word processor and print it from there. An alternative option is to add a few spaces (by pressing the <Enter> key) directly before the question that is getting cut off.

My printer is not printing the worksheets correctly or at all.

If you're experiencing printing problems from within the program, click on the "QuickWord" button at the top of the editing screen to export your worksheet to your computer's word processor and print it from there. If you have problems printing from your computer's word processor, consult your printer manual or the technical support for your printer manufacturer.

Animations are slow/ have white box in background.

Many of Gepeto Software's programs use Shockwave Flash animations incorporated into the games. If you are experiencing slow animations, lockups, or an empty white background, you need to install the latest version of Macromedia's Flash Player on your computer. You can download the player/plug-in here: www.macromedia.com. Choose "Install Shockwave Player" and follow the onscreen directions. You should be prompted to install the player automatically. Click "Yes" and let it install.
